Schuylkill traffic stop sets off drug bust
A joint investigation involving the Schuylkill County District Attorney’s Office, Drug Task Force members and state police officers from Troop L in Reading, and Troop G in Holidaysburg, culminated on Tuesday with the arrest of Caelan B.C. Houk, 24, of State College, and they seizure of tens of thousands of dollars worth of drugs.
State police at the Frackville barracks said Houk is charged with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug Device and Cosmetic Act and state Crimes Code offenses of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, persons not to possess, use, manufacture, control, sell or transfer firearms and firearms not to be carried without a license.
Following arraignment before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer of Tamaqua, Houk was committed to the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville, in lieu of $250,000 bail.
Police said the search and seizure warrants were executed when police stopped Houk in a 2009 Ford Fusion at about 1:15 p.m. Tuesday on the off ramp of Interstate 81 southbound. The Frackville exit ramp is located in West Mahanoy Township.
Seized was one pound of suspected methamphetamine with an estimated street value in excess of $18,000, and a Taurus .9-mm pistol with ammunition.
A secondary search warrant was also executed by state police, the Centre County Drug Task Force and officers from the State College Police Department at apartment used by Houck, where about 3 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, having an estimated street value of $54,000, was seized.
In addition, police seized about one ounce of psilocybin mushrooms with a street value of $200; about 380 MDMA (Ecstasy) pills worth $3,800; and several hundred amphetamine pills and anabolic steroids.
