Register of wills moves back in courthouse

With the courthouse renovation project completed, one last office that relocated temporarily has moved back into the courthouse.

On Thursday, Jean Papay, register of wills/clerk of orphans’ court, announced that her office is back in the courthouse. She had relocated to 76 Susquehanna St. during the renovations so crews could do the necessary updates for the project.

Papay thanked the maintenance department for “a job well done,” helping her office staff with organizing and relocating all of the furniture and equipment that needed to be moved.

Papay’s office relocated out of the courthouse in December 2023, when the courthouse renovation project was getting started.

The register of wills handles matters involving nonprofit organizations, issues marriage licenses, probate wills and appoints fiduciaries for estates, files and processes adoptions and parental terminations and acts as an agent for inheritance taxes.
