Carbon County Commissioners
The Carbon County Commissioners acted on the following items during their meetings recently.
• Reappointed David R. Hawk of Lehighton to a five-year term on the environmental education center board. The term ends on Dec. 31, 2029.
• Ratified a proposal with Howard Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Co. of Allentown to reclaim and dispose of the refrigeration system for the walk-in freezer at the correctional facility and to install an outdoor condensing unit on the roof and a 13,000 BTU evaporator coil with necessary controls at a total cost of $12,658.
• Approved an agreement with Viapath Technologies of Falls Church, Virginia, to purchase a DISI CorreTrak System at the correctional facility at a cost of $36,768. This is paid for through the commissary funds.
• Approved an agreement with ESCO Inc. of Ephrata to install an outdoor bullet camera at District Judge Beth Dodson’s office in Lansford. The total cost is $1,724.
• Approved the 2024 State Homeland Security Grant Program agreement between the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the Northeast Pennsylvania Regional Counter Terrorism Task Force. The $806,419 grant, which is utilized by 10 counties, runs from Sept. 1, 2024 through Aug. 31, 2027.
• Approved an agreement with the Juvenile Court Judges’ Commission for Youth Level of Service Assessments at a cost of $4 per use rate. This is funded by the Children and Youth Needs Based Budget.
• Approved Valerie Saveri, county grant coordinator, as the county representative alternate to the Northeastern Pennsylvania Metropolitan Planning Organization Technical Planning Committee through June 30, 2026.
• Approved the purchase of a copier/printer from Edwards Business Systems of Wyomissing for the sheriff’s office at a total cost of $3,148.60. Another copier/printer was also purchased through Edwards for the treasurer’s office at a cost of $1,119.28.
• Adopted the county Open Records Policy 2025-01 to assure compliance with Act 3 of 2008, the Pennsylvania Right-To-Know, as amended. The changes cover providing access to public records of the county to preserve the integrity of the county’s records and minimize the financial impact to residents regarding resources utilized in the receipt and processing of public records requests and retrieval and copying of public records.
• Adopted a proclamation acknowledging Feb. 9-15 as FBLA week in the county.
