Whether Palmerton residents will see a municipal tax rate increase next year will come into focus later this month.
Borough council on Thursday briefly discussed the 2025 budget, though no indication was given in either direction.
A proposed budget is under review after borough Manager Autumn Canfield met with the borough’s finance committee.
“We should be able to bring this to the second meeting,” said Canfield, who added council can review the budget to see if there’s anything that should be changed.
Borough council will meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 21, at which time it will likely advertise the proposed budget. Final budget adoption is expected next month.
Last December, council unanimously adopted this year’s budget with a 1.2-mill increase to be used to establish a fire fund. That increased the millage rate from 13.77 to 14.97 mills.
In addition, a resolution for the borough’s water rate resulted in a 25% increase across the board for residential meters.
Canfield had said earlier that the borough had numerous projects planned for this year.
Some items included repair work to borough buildings; improvements at the signals for Third and Delaware; replacing weapons that have reached end of life for the police; conversion of lights to LED; sewer lining; work in alleys; and purchase of police cars.
