The cast and crew of the Tamaqua Area Drama Club will bring the 1990 romantic fantasy film “Ghost” to life during three performances this month.

Students in the lead roles promise that “Ghost — The Musical” will have something for all.

“It’s a fan favorite for everybody, and for every age,” said senior Denny Krell, who portrays main character Sam Wheat.

“It’s a classic movie. Everybody knows the story,” added junior Cecilia Ulicny, who is in the lead role of Molly Jensen.

The musical follows Sam and Molly, a young couple who are attacked on their way home one evening. Sam passes away from the attack and becomes trapped between the real world and the next, unable to leave Molly.

When Sam realizes that Molly is in great danger, he tries to communicate with Molly in the hope of protecting her.

“I think the musical has more to offer. I think it really keeps the audience engaged,” Ulicny said.

There’s action, there’s romance — and there is even comedy, she and Krell said.

“There are a lot of parts that are upbeat. There are a lot of parts that are the intimate moments,” Krell said.

Actors also “fly” during the performance — just as they did during the drama club’s fall 2023 production of “Tarzan.”

“There are different harnesses and different flying movements. There are somersaults instead of just regular flying over the stage like Tarzan,” explained Krell, who portrayed Tarzan.

The music, Krell said, includes many rock selections.

Students have been working on the play for the past three months. The club has about 65 in the cast and crew for the production, with lead roles rounded out by Corabel Najarro as Oda Mae Brown and Frank Wagner as Carl Bruner.

The director is Adriane Drum.

Performances will be held at 6 p.m. Nov. 14, and at 7 p.m. on Nov. 15 and 16 in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium.
