Lansford Alive will discuss ideas and improvements for the downtown, welcoming Savas Logothetides, who heads the Pottsville Area Development Corp., as a guest speaker this month.
Logothetides will provide information on programs and funding available while at the group’s general meeting at 6 p.m. Nov. 14 at Cabrera’s Restaurant, 161 W. Ridge St. All are welcome to attend, said Chris Ondrus, president.
Lansford Alive is also working on creating a business/storefront directory, as there have been both individuals and businesses looking for retail and office space in the downtown, Ondrus said.
In addition, the organization will be sending letters to property owners to gauge interest in renting or leasing out their space for retail and business opportunities, he said.
The letter will include information on grant and loan programs available at the county, state and federal level, he said.
“Numerous property owners have made improvements to their buildings in the downtown in recent months — from facades, to roofs, to siding,” Ondrus said.
Lansford Alive has decided to thank and recognize these property owners with a Downtown Property Improvement Award, he said.
The organization has also begun improving a corner lot at Center and Patterson streets, and plan to rehabilitate it as a welcoming area in the borough and downtown. The group also wishes to recognize first responders with a monument.
Lansford Alive will also finalize plans for its Christmas Party and Black Diamond Award, and will discuss decorating for the Christmas season.
