Anthony Vasiliou was recommended last night by the Summit Hill Borough Council to be the community’s new Civil Defense director.
The council voted unanimously to submit his name to Nelson W. Norwood, Carbon County Civil Defense director, for approval, and for him to send Vasiliou’s name to Harrisburg for the formal approval of Gov. William Scranton.
Vasiliou would succeed Thomas Barr, whose resignation was formally accepted by the council. Barr served as the community’s Civil Defense director for about 20 years. He submitted his resignation on Oct. 5 because he claimed council failed to make a concrete proposal for a Civil Defense control center in the borough.
