Recorder offers veterans service

Carbon County Recorder of Deeds Donna L. Gentile will be a participant in the upcoming Carbon County Veterans Fair, where veterans will have an opportunity to record their discharge papers.

Gentile’s office is the repository of filings of the DD214 filings. A DD214 is a certificate of release or discharge from active duty, a document issued by the U.S. Department of Defense to a service member when he or she is discharged, separated or retired from the military. It contains information that can be used to verify military service for benefits, employment, retirement and membership in veterans’ organizations.

Gentile said DD214 filings are free of charge and kept confidential.

They can be filed at the Veterans Fair that will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 7 at Yenser’s Tree Farm, Mahoning Township.

Gentile said the first 20 veterans to record their papers will receive a free 2025 wall calendar.

For additional information, veterans can contact the Carbon County Veterans Affairs Office, 570-325-3986, or the Recorder of Deeds Office, 570-325-2651.
