Tamaqua hunger campaign winds down
The 2024 Tamaqua Community Hunger Campaign ends this Thursday so there’s still time for area residents to make a donation to help support local food pantries and programs.
The 13th annual campaign is a project of the Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network and benefits food pantries at American Primitive Methodist Church, Trinity UCC and Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and the food ministry at Stokes Ministries.
The month-long campaign featured a community soup sale, with 225 quarts of homemade soup sold. The soups were provided by Bethany ECC, St. John UCC, Stokes Ministries, Trinity UCC, Zion Evangelical Lutheran, American Primitive Methodist, the Tamaqua BPW and The Station Restaurant.
Three area restaurants shared a portion of their proceed from a Dine Out Against Hunger Day last week.
Participating restaurants were the Beacon Diner and Two Kings in Hometown and Tommy’s Italian Specialty Shop in Tamaqua.
A number of churches, businesses and civic and service organizations have been collecting food this month which is then shared with the community food pantries.
Food pickup is being handled by Paulette Lacrosse who can be reached at paulette1one@gmail.com or 570-926-4698.
The campaign’s final formal event was Sunday’s Hunger Walk which drew over 100 walkers, including a group of students from the Tamaqua Area High School’s National Honor Society.
Donations are still being accepted at https://tamaquahunger.tacp.info/.
TAFFN is 501c3 nonprofit organization of lay leaders from area churches operating under the umbrella of the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership.
