Tamaqua area eateries participate in fight against hunger effort

Four Tamaqua area restaurants are participating in the fight against hunger this week. Three are hosting “Dine Out Against Hunger” days and one has contributed soup to the community soup sale Saturday.

The Beacon Diner and Two Kings, both in Hometown, will donate a portion of their proceeds from sales on Wednesday, and Tommy’s Italian Specialty Shop in Tamaqua will do the same on Thursday. Diners at the three Dine Out restaurants should mention that they are supporting the hunger campaign.

The Station Restaurant is donating two soups to the community soup sale, which ended its sales Sunday.

All area restaurants were invited to participate in this year’s Community Hunger Campaign.

The monthlong campaign ends Oct. 27 with the 13th Tamaqua Hunger Walk leaving the Tamaqua Art Center at 2 p.m. Teams and individuals can register beginning at 1:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to seek sponsors for the walk from the Art Center to Griffith’s Funeral Home and back. For more information about the walk, contact Glenn Fritzinger at 484-560-8211 or Paul Dodson at 272-208-0034.

The Tamaqua Hunger Campaign is a project of the Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network, a 501(3)c organization of lay leaders from area churches operating under the umbrella of the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership.

The campaign benefits food pantries at American Primitive Methodist Church, Trinity United Church of Christ, Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Stokes Ministries food program.
