Rush Twp. supervisors make appointments

Rush Township supervisors made appointments to positions during Thursday’s monthly meeting.

William Rowe was appointed to a vacancy on the Northeastern Schuylkill Joint Municipal Authority. He was also appointed as the township’s representative to the authority’s board.

John “Jack” Cusatis was appointed to another term on the township’s Zoning Board.

Appointments were unanimous.

Also during the meeting, supervisors approved the purchase of a portable storage building from Storage Solutions in the amount of $9,741. The building will be placed at the proposed organic recycling facility at 54 Progress Ave. in the Tidewood Industrial Park. Plans are to have it operational by 2026.

Supervisors accepted an increase in equivalent dwelling unit charges from the borough of Nesquehoning pertaining to the sewer rates. Those served by the Nesquehoning sewer in the Lake Hauto development will not see an increase in their sewage rates.

The board noted that Energy Transfer will be conducting hydrostatic tests on the Sunoco Pipeline.

Supervisors voted 2-1 to modify a vote taken at the Oct. 3 special meeting to clarify that the reversion to the pre-July emergency management services coverage areas applies to basic life services. Supervisor George Gerhard was opposed.

The board also voted in favor of Act 37 of 2009 in regard to EMS coverage areas for advanced life support. Gerhard noted that under the act, the Schuylkill County Emergency Management Agency dispatches the closest advanced life support services provider to the caller.

“It’s not related to an organization,” he noted.

Following the business portion of the meeting, Supervisor Robert Leibensperger addressed behavior when people disagree with each other. He said the actions of someone after the board’s special meeting in October were “uncalled for.”

“After the last meeting and after any meetings when there are disagreements, people tend to get upset,” he said.

Leibensperger said people have thrown beer bottles in his driveway. Most recently, a lewd object was put in his mailbox.

“The mailman doesn’t like that, and it’s not nice because I have a 5-year-old and a 3 year-old grandchildren, and I don’t want them to see that,” he said. “This is unnecessary. If you have a disagreement with me, talk to me.”
