Palmerton Booster Club tops parade floats

When it comes to the large floats in the Palmerton Halloween Parade, the Palmerton Booster Club has proven hard to beat.

That held true again Sunday as the club’s flag football cheerleaders and 100-pound football team shared “Best Appearing Large Float” honors in the highly competitive, 13-entry category.

The cheerleaders kicked things off with a “Trolls” theme near the start of the 33rd annual parade, while the football team wound down festivities in the fourth and final division with its “All Gas, No Breaks” float.

Palmerton’s streets were lined well before the 4 p.m. parade start, with families taking advantage of sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 70s.

Jane Miller, watching on Lafayette Avenue near the parade start, said the parade is a family tradition.

“It’s always a blast,” Miller said. “The floats are so creative and it’s great to see the community come together. The kids get excited. It’s one of those traditions that brings out the best in our town.”

Tammy Recker, parade announcer, said the event is just one example of how tradition runs deep in Palmerton.

“It’s proven every year when you look up and down Delaware Avenue and see and feel the enthusiasm,” Recker said. “This year was electric. The entries were so creative and wonderfully done. Our volunteers are amazing. There’s truly no place like home and nothing greater than being a Bomber as we celebrated Halloween.”

Of the seven judged categories, large floats had the most number of entries. Finishing first through fourth respectively were Towamensing Soccer Club’s “A League Of Their Own,” Zottarelli Home Improvements’ “Construction,” Bethany Wesleyan Church’s “Jesus Is So Sweet,” and Palmerton Booster Club Varsity Cheerleaders’ “Beetlejuice.”
