Lehighton celebrates 53rd Halloween parade

Ghosts, goblins, aliens, and more were on display at the 53rd Annual Halloween Parade in Lehighton on Saturday.

The beautiful weather and eight divisions of floats, marchers, and emergency vehicles brought out the crowds lined up on both sides of the entire parade route.

The grand marshal of the parade was Sandy Whiteman, driven in a red convertible by Hank Williams. The car originally belong to the late Charles Getz, Carbon County Commissioner.

The Lehighton United Veterans Organization and the Lehighton Police Department lead the parade which included 56 entries, two bands, five area fire companies, several Scouting troops, churches, school organizations, political leaders, and many area businesses, and area car clubs.

The Lehighton Indian Pride Marching Band and Band front were in the first division, and the Allentown Almost “Hobo” Marching Band were in division fifth division.

Many of the parade watchers were dressed up in costume; children and adults. Betty and John Roberts of East Penn Township had their two children, Jaydin and Kayla, at the parade.

Jaydin, age 5, had on a cowboy costume. His 7-year-old sister was dressed up as a cat.

“They love the parade,” Betty Roberts said. “They have been looking forward to it all month. They usually end up with a big bag of candy afterwards.”

Some notable entries included a float by the Lehighton Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, celebrating the work they do for the area.

St. John Neumann Regional School of Palmerton had a Charlie Brown Christmas float. Girl Scout Troop 3620 also honored the Peanuts characters with “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.”

Girl Scouts Troop 3801 had a van and scouts with an Alice in Wonderland theme.

Lehighton High School Volleyball Team were all decked out in pink with a Barbie theme.

Everyone gathered afterwards for refreshments in the Community Grove at 8th and Iron streets.
