Lehighton Council
Lehighton Borough Council recently took the following action:
• Hired Livengood Excavators to install six storm sewer inlet tops on Twelfth Street in the amount of $10,405, and to purchase all necessary materials for the job at a cost of $8,702 from Monarch precast.
• Approved the Shade Tree Commission recommendations to retroactively approve the 13 trees installed along the Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard during the traffic, calming and pedestrian safety project; the 14 native species of trees being planted in the borough parking lot that was just recently paved with Community Development Block Grant funding; the trees that will be installed in the center of the Lehighton Downtown Initiative’s five planter cells along Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard; and to allocate funding from the shade tree commission budget to pay for any topsoil required to complete the tree plantings for that parking lot.
• On a 5-1 vote, approved an application from the Lehighton Downtown Initiative for use of Baer Memorial Park for the Wine on the River event to be held May 2 and 3. Councilwoman Autumn Abelovsky was opposed.
• Contract with Frasier on a five-year contract for just over $200 a month for printing services at the police department, which is less than the current rate. It will see a small increase yearly over the duration of the contract.
• Adopted the fats, oils, and grease trap ordinance.
• Tabled action on an ordinance to update Penn Avenue.
• Approved a resolution concerning funds received from municipal state aid.
• Appointed Tim Tkach to fill a vacancy on the Lehighton Water Authority.
• Approved the request to hold a Snowflake 5K Walk/Run for Dylan and Gavin’s Rainbow on Dec. 7.
