Car show benefit brings out crowd to Becky’s

The 36th Annual Lehigh Township Benefit Festival and Car Show was held on Sunday at Becky’s Drive-In for the Blue Ridge Chapter of Dream Come True. It hosted by the Lehigh Township Lions Club.

The proceeds help seriously, chronically and terminally ill children have their dreams fulfilled, such as going to Disney World or seeing their favorite star or actor.

The one day event consisted of a flea market, crafts, food, entertainment, games for children, tricky tray, hayrides and basket social. Some of the attractions included Emerald Dragon Karate, which did demonstration for the crowd; Balloons by Robin; and Brad Clark as “Elvis,” singing in and around the cars.

Among the vendors were Boy Scout Troop #62 from St. Nicholas Church in Berlinvsille. They sold warm apple and peach cobbler with ice cream. This was their second year selling cobbler.

The car show had 416 new and old cars and two motorcycles. One of the Classics Cars was brought by Frank Dinatally of Lehighton. He brought his 1965 Plymouth Barracuda that he rebuilt with a 273 high performance, original Commando engine.

Bryan Peralth of Walnutport brought a newer model car, a 2016 V-6 370-Z Nissan Sport. Peralth enjoyed updating the car by putting in a Tesla dashboard and Xenon headlights.

A past recipient of Dream Come True, Tammy Heckman also was in attendance. As a young girl, she was one of the first to go to Disney World through the Blue Ridge Chapter. Heckman will be 50 years old and will go to Disney again, because the program is 50 years old.

“The crowd is just wonderful,” said Cindy Beck-Deppe, co-owner of Becky’s Drive-In. “It’s great to see all the local people I haven’t seen in quite a while. Our employees donated their time to work this event. They even donated their tip money from last night to the pot, which was $47. Everyone is having a great time.”
