Several Nesquehoning groups are hoping to secure thousands of dollars in Local Share Account grants for several projects in the community.
Last week, borough council approved three motions for resolutions supporting LSA grant applications.
The first is an application for $25,000 that would be used for purchasing additional holiday lights that would be hung in the borough.
This application is partnered with Summit Hill as part of the Blueprint Community initiative.
The second resolution supports the Nesquehoning Conservation Club’s request for $18,000 to be used on equipment to maintain property it owns.
The third is a request for $92,000 for new radios for Nesquehoning Hose Company, Hauto and New Columbus fire companies.
John McArdle, Nesquehoning Hose Company fire chief, said that if successful, the money would cover 13 new radios. The radios cost more than $7,000 each.
“This amount represents only a portion of the replacement equipment we will need,” he said, noting that Carbon County has plans to switch to digital radios in the next few years.
In other grant matters, borough secretary Deborah DelFranco reported that Nesquehoning received a $25,000 grant for playground equipment for the Johnson and Jacobs Memorial Park on West Railroad Street.
The borough is currently working to make upgrades to that park.
