Carbon County Commissioners

The Carbon County Commissioners acted on or discussed the following items during their weekly meeting on Thursday.

• Approved an addendum to an agreement with Oasis Management Systems Inc. of Georgia for the exclusive right to continue to operate all inmate commissary sales and services at the Carbon County Correctional Facility for an additional one year, beginning Jan. 31. All other terms of the contract remain the same. There is no cost to the county.

• Accept the renewal of special risk accident coverage for county volunteers from Oct. 1, 2024, through Oct. 1, 2025. The annual premium paid to Gerber Life Insurance Company through the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania insurance programs is $400.

• Approved cooperation agreements for the entitlement and nonentitlement Community Development Block Grant projects for fiscal year 2023.

• Approved an agreement between the Carbon County Area Agency on Aging and Kellie A. Cummings to continue to serve as the SHARE Housing counselor. The position oversees the federally mandated and funded SHARE Housing Match Up Pilot program, aims to help provide affordable housing for seniors. Cummings will be paid $23.73 per hour, with an annual compensation not to exceed $47,754 a year.

• Approved an agreement with Babst, Calland, Clements and Zomnir of State College to represent the county in a federal case involving the Republican National Committee vs. Al Schmidt, et. al. The case is about whether to count mail-in ballots with missing dates or errors.

• Approved an agreement with Keystone Consulting Engineers Inc. of Kresgeville to perform surveys and prepare legal descriptions of two parcels of undeveloped land owned by the county in Palmerton. The cost for the survey is $4,000.

• Hire: Rupinder Kaur of Easton, county caseworker II, Children & Youth Services, effective Oct. 7.

• Change of status: Nancy J. Davidovich of Weatherly, from archivist/records manager to archivist/records director, effective Sept. 30; and Nathan Kmetz of Jim Thorpe, from chief assessor trainee to chief assessor, tax assessment, effective Sept. 16.

• Court resignation: Nicole M. Tokarick-Harmon, probation officer 1, adult probation, effective Sept. 23.

• Court change of status: Regina M. D’Ancona of Nesquehoning, from clerical specialist to juvenile probation specialist, juvenile court, effective Sept. 30; and Crystal L. Smith of Palmerton, from juvenile court secretary II to administrative assistant, juvenile court, effective Sept. 30.

• District attorney resignation: Adriana Bradley of Jim Thorpe, legal administrative assistant, effective Oct. 4.

• District attorney change of status: Jack B. Soberick of Lansford, from temporary part-time county detective to chief county detective, effective Sept. 30.
