PASD hopefuls to visit Monday

Three superintendent candidates will make public presentations

Finalists for the Palmerton Area School District superintendent post will make presentations to the public Monday night in an event scheduled for 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

Board members said the event is “a critical opportunity for students, parents, staff, and community members to hear directly from the candidates vying to lead the district.”

“We have one internal and two external candidates who will be doing their presentations to the public,” Sherry Haas, board president, said in an email Tuesday.

Ryan Kish, Palmerton’s business manager, was tabbed as acting superintendent following the departure of Dr. Jodi Frankelli, who left to become the executive director of early learning at Allentown School District.

Having started in that role July 6, Kish is earning an additional $130 per day on top of his regular salary. He was hired at a $128,000 salary for the 2022-23 school year with 3% increases scheduled for each following year.

In August, Haas said the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit, which has been running the search, provided the board with information on 13 interested applicants.

“We narrowed it down to seven,” Haas said in August, “but two of them have since taken other positions. We will be interviewing five applicants.”

Since then, the field has been narrowed to three.

Doors open Monday at 5:30 p.m. A message from the district concerning the event said it would run until approximately 7:30 p.m.
