Nonprofits eligible for energy makeover contest

Nonprofit organizations needing a little help with their energy efficiency can try their luck on a new contest.

Earlier this month, the Carbon County Community Foundation posted the Nonprofit Energy Makeover contest, fueled by the Sustainable Energy Fund, to upgrade a nonprofit building to be more energy efficient at no cost to the winning organization.

The program provides the organization with a way to save on its utility bills by implementing upgrades from the energy makeover. The savings that are realized can then be turned around and used to help with that organization’s operations.

Applications are being accepted now through Jan. 1, 2025.

Applicants must be a 501c3 organization, own their building and be located in the 29-county PPL Service Region.

Applicants chosen as semi-finalists will receive a site visit from a technical specialist to help narrow the choices.

Three finalists will then be selected to send two years of energy bills, and create a question and answer video with Sustainable Energy Fund.

These items will be used by a panel of judges to choose the winner.

According to the contest website: “The winning nonprofit organization, chosen for its inefficient building and for the good it does for the community, will produce dramatic energy savings. ... The main goal of the Makeover Contest is to promote energy efficiency and assist energy users in overcoming educational and financial barriers to a sustainable energy future.”
