Carbon County Commissioners
The Carbon County Commissioners approved or discussed the following items last Thursday:
• The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections notified the county that an invoice for $65,446.55 has been submitted for fiscal year 2023-2024 of the Supervision Fund and payment will be received in the near future.
• Ratified a quote from Leon A. George II, School Buses Inc. of Palmerton, for transportation of Drug Treatment court participants to Kalahari Resort and Convention Center, Pocono Manor on Sept. 11 to hear addictions speaker Chris Herren. The cost was $350.
• Approved a Rights and Services Act grant application submission to the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency in the amount of $44,382. This victim/witness grant would be effective Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2025.
• Adopted an amended resolution to the Department of Community and Economic Development in support of the county’s Multimodal Transportation Fund Grant program. The resolution provides the total project cost for bridge 19, located on Pohopoco Drive in Towamensing Township.
• Accepted a quote from S.A. Comunale of West Lawn to repair a 6-inch Ames colt backflow and a section of 4-inch pipe that were tagged during a recent fire protection inspection at 525 Iron St., Lehighton. The cost is $2,957.
• Announced that the board toured the D&L Spillways project between Weissport and Jim Thorpe and that the project is close to completion.

• Resignations: Michael F. Baker of Drums, corrections officer, effective Sept. 3; and Lauren F. Brown of Lehighton, corrections officer, effective Aug. 19.
• Hire: Robert A. Saurman of Stroudsburg, assistant public defender, effective Sept. 18.
