The Rev. Dr. Samuel Zeiser, former bishop of the Northeast Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, will be the preacher and celebrant for Sept. 29 and Oct. 6 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Heights, 319 South Ave., Jim Thorpe.
Zeiser is a native of Jim Thorpe and a son of the congregation. He was ordained in 1979 and served as a pastor for 41 years. He served as bishop for 12½ years prior to retiring in January 2021. He currently resides in Allentown.
To celebrate his retirement, the Church Council petitioned Jim Thorpe Borough Council to name the lane next to the church in his honor — “Bishop Samuel Zeiser Way.”
He will be filling in while the pastor, the Rev. William M. Thompson, will be traveling in Europe.
The services are at 10:30 a.m. Sunday and are broadcast over WLSH, 1410 AM, Lansford.
All are welcome.
