Slatington FD remembers first responders

Slatington Fire Department had a memorial remembrance service for the first responders who lost their lives Sept. 11, 2001.

Candles were lit, Pastor David Schnaars said a prayer and Firefighter Krystall Borman read a statement.

“Today we gather to honor the memory of the brave first responders who gave their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. On that fateful day, our nation witnessed acts of courage and selflessness that will forever be etched in our hearts and minds. As the world watched in horror, these heroes ran toward danger, driven by an unwavering commitment to save lives.”

She said firefighters, police officers, paramedics and other first responders faced unimaginable peril. “With every step they took, they climbed the stairs of the Twin Towers, knowing the risks, yet determined to bring others to safety. Their bravery in the face of such overwhelming danger is a testament to their dedication and love for their fellow human beings.

“We remember the 343 firefighters, the 60 police officers, and the eight paramedics who perished that day,” she said.

“Their sacrifice was not in vain. “

The fire companies also honored the families and loved ones they left behind.

“As we stand here today, let us pledge to never forget their sacrifice. Let us honor their memory by living lives of service, kindness, and compassion. And let us ensure that their legacy lives on, not only in our hearts but in the actions we take to build a better, safer world,” Borman said.
