Route 209 between Tamaqua and Coaldale is closed due to a fatal pedestrian accident. The incident occurred just before 5 p.m. just north of the entrance to the former Jamesway Plaza.

A male walking the roadway was struck and killed by a passing motorist.

Tamaqua fire police maintained traffic control at the scene shutting down the roadway. Tamaqua police are investigating the incident being assisted by a state police forensic unit and a reconstruction team.
