Eldred obtains grant to boost playground

Eldred Township will be receiving a Recreation and Parks Technical Assistance Program grant for the 1.5-acre former ball field between the municipal building and the Eldred Township Community Center in front of the playground.

The township has a planner for the park who is interested in hearing ideas from the residents for what they would like to see included in the park.

A Park Planning Pop-up meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 29 at ETCC for residents, including children, to help design the park. The township is asking residents and children to draw what they want the park to look like. Fliers about the event will be handed out during cleanup day and all residents will be emailed about the date.

Cleanup days are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 20, and 7 a.m. to noon on Sept. 21. The township approved organizing the event and providing dumpsters.

In other business, purchases of carts and racks for the thrift store were approved at a cost of $1,899.40.

And the Eldred Township Historical Society requested a donation for the bingo and tricky tray fundraiser. It was approved for $100.

The event will be held at noon on Oct. 13 at Saint Matthew’s UCC, 102 Church Road, Kunkletown. The Historical Society is looking for donations for the tricky tray.
