Nesquehoning fire company bringing back event
A well-received community event in Nesquehoning that was sidelined during the pandemic is making a comeback.
A Facebook event post announced that the Nesquehoning Hose Company No. 1 is revitalizing Trunk or Treat, an event that provides youngsters with a safe space to show off their Halloween costumes, while getting candy from residents participating in the event.
“As most of you remember this was a very successful event held in our town for our children and residents of all ages, but during COVID fell to the wayside,” the organizers posted. “The Hose Company recognizes the importance of these events as a way of giving back to our community. With your support and participation, we are confident that we can once again make this a thriving event for our residents, while keeping it a completely free event for all that attend. Our goal for this event is to provide a safe and controlled setting for families to enjoy and come together as a community.”
Trunk or Treat will be held around the grounds of the fire company, located at 953 E. Catawissa St., from 6-8:30 p.m. on Oct. 19.
On Wednesday, borough council donated $250 to the fire department for the event.
Council also approved shutting down the 700 and 800 blocks of East Center Street for the event to allow for participant parking, as well as crossing guards and fire police to help during the event.
The organizers are currently looking for residents who would like to set up their trunk or a table display to hand out candy to the kids.
Anyone who would like to participate can call Suzanne Smith at 484-464-8062. Information that is needed is your name, contact phone number, email and if you will be bringing a vehicle or table to set up during the event.
Donations to offset the costs are also being accepted. Checks can be made payable to Nesquehoning Hose Company No. 1 with a note in the memo area “Trunk or Treat.” Candy, drink and snack donations are also being accepted by fire company members or can be dropped off at the Nesquehoning Borough Office building, 114 W. Catawissa St., during office hours.
Additional information for participants and the public will be made available closer to the event date.
“We would like to thank everyone in advance for helping us make this night one that our community will remember,” the organizers wrote.
