Palmerton Borough Council

Palmerton Borough Council took the following action last week:

• Awarded a contract to Mr. Rehab LLC, a CO-STARS vendor, based on the recommendation from the borough’s engineering firm, Entech Engineering, for sanitary sewer lining in the amount of $150,351. The project is for cured-in-place pipe lining services to rehabilitate various sections of sewer pipe.

• Approved a resolution for emergency procurement of elevator equipment and installation for the elevator in the municipal building. The elevator is over 20 years old, and the borough is having the power unit replaced and the oil changed. The elevator has been out of service since Aug. 15, as the improper functioning is causing a safety issue in which the elevator is not stopping level with each floor.

• Agreed to advertise for collection of municipal waste. The borough is in a five-year contract with its waste hauler, Waste Management, for trash disposal and recycling that will end this year. With the authorization, the borough will place an ad to start the bid process to select a hauler for the next contract.

• Approved a request from the Concourse Club for the addition of permanent seating around the rose garden in the borough park. The Concourse Club will add four L-shaped sitting walls around the corners of the rose garden.

• Announced that the borough is still accepting letters of interest for the property maintenance appeals board.

• Approved requests for the Lehighton Borough fire police assistance for the 150th anniversary of the Lehighton Fire Department on Sept. 28, as well as the Lehighton Halloween Parade on Oct. 19.

• Announced that the borough will partner with the mayor of Slatington on a canned food drive for the Palmerton/Northern Lehigh football game.

• Announced that trick or treat will take place in the borough from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 26.

• Announced that next year’s National Night Out event will take place Aug. 5, 2025, in the borough park.
