Hunter Street in Tamaqua will be paved using Community Development Block Grant funds.
Borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt told council this week that the borough’s CDBG allocation for 2024 is $124,952.
After subtracting administrative costs and money that will be put aside for demolition, the borough will have $71,723.
With the funds, Steigerwalt said he and Jay Stidham, director of public works, recommend paving Hunter Street from Broad Street to the borough line.
Council approved the recommendation.
In keeping with CDBG, Steigerwalt noted that the 2023 application had been approved.
“My plan was to proceed with the demolition of 401 Willing St.,” he said.
In an unrelated matter, he said paving on Cedar and Clay streets will begin the week of Sept. 9 or 16.
“As it gets a little closer, (the contractor) will let us know when,” Steigerwalt said.
He noted that the borough will notify businesses along Cedar Street.
“We will give them a head’s-up on the project because the street will be closed,” he said.
Stidham added that borough crews paved Reilly Avenue between Market and Clark streets, and would tackle Coal Street between Van Gelder and High streets, and High Street between Lehigh and Swatara streets.
“That’s our workforce using rented equipment and Liquid Fuel funds,” Steigerwalt said.
