Many area children have new book bags and school supplies for their first day of school, thanks to the First Presbyterian Church, Third and Mahoning streets, Lehighton. This is the fourth year the church distributed the supplies to families with students.
“We started with 130 book bags,” said Martha Cox of First Presbyterian Church. “As of this (Saturday) morning, we had 71 remaining. If we have some left, we will give some to Family Promise, and we will give some away at the middle of the school year when some of these new ones have fallen apart or zippers break.”
Each student received a book bag and supplies such as paper, pencils, pens, crayons and folders.
