Special luncheon

A “Country Fair” luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 17 at Grace Evangelical Free Church, 101 Graeff St., Cressona. The event is sponsored by the Pottsville Christian Women’s Club.

Speaker will be Sylvia Tarro of Stephenson, Virginia, who will use her shadowbox skills to take attendees on an adventure with heart-stopping misadventures and safe landings. Special music will be provided by DaleLee Praise, Dale Hurst and Lee Wells of Pine Grove.

There will be produce, baked goods, books, puzzles, jewelry, home goods and more for sale.

Tamaqua Seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on Aug. 15, with 29 members present. The president opened the meeting with the invocation, “He Leads.”

Two members were added to the sick list, and one member was welcomed back. Refreshments were served.

Members must attend 15 meetings a year to get free meals for the picnic and Christmas party. Bingo and cards were played.

The seniors are in desperate need of a secondhand refrigerator. Anyone who has one should contact President Jean Machamer at 570-668-4165.

New Diaper clients

Diaper Depot, the free diaper ministry at Zion Lutheran Church in Tamaqua, is accepting new clients for the Sept. 21 diaper distribution.

Clients must live in the Tamaqua Area School District. Requests can be filed at www.ziontamaqua.com/diaper-depot/.

Diapers are for children ages newborn to 4 years, sizes NB to 3T-4T. Diapers are distributed by appointment Sept. 21.

Appointments are assigned when requests are processed. Request deadline is Sept. 6.

St. Peter’s West Penn

Sunday worship service at St. Peter’s Church in West Penn is at 9 a.m. followed by Adult Sunday School at 10:15 a.m.

There will be an open house from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday for the 3-year-old preschool and from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday for the 4-year-old preschool.

Camp meeting

The 111th Lewistown Valley Camp meeting will be held daily from Friday to Sept. 2 from the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, 614 Valley Road. All are welcome.

The Revs. Daniel and Betsy Taylor of Laurel, Delaware, will lead services each day. They sing and minister together.

The Pennsylvania Adult and Teen Challenge Choir of Rehrersburg will perform at 7 p.m. Aug. 29 for Missionary Night.

The River of Grace Gospel Group will perform at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 1.

Mended Heart of Pine Grove will perform at 2:30 p.m. on Labor Day, Sept. 2.

Food will be available for purchase on Labor Day.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at Zion Church Lewistown Valley. Sunday school is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.

“The Chosen” will be shown at 2 p.m. Sunday in the social hall.

Valley Christian Preschool begins on Aug. 26 for 4-year-olds and Aug. 27 for 3-year-olds.
