St. John UCC rummage sale

A rummage sale will be held in the fellowship hall of St. John UCC, 150 Pine St., Tamaqua, on Sept. 7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. No reasonable offers will be refused.

9/11 service

A Patriot Day “We Remember” ceremony will be held beginning at 6 p.m. Sept. 11 at the South Ward Playground, Oak and Penn streets.

Community members along with elected officials will speak.

Gates will open at 5 p.m. The concession stand will be open; proceeds will support the playground association.

St. Peter’s West Penn

Pastor Glenn Rarick will lead the 9 a.m. Sunday service at St. Peter’s Church in West Penn. Adult Sunday school is at 10:15 a.m. and a board meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m.

Tamaqua Seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on Aug. 8, with 30 members present. President Jean Machamer opened the meeting with the invocation, “Come Walk With Me.”

Members Dolly Kamant and Sarah Huber are celebrating birthdays this month.

The summer picnic was catered by Hess Catering of Schuylkill Haven. Members said the food was delicious. Ice cream was donated by Machamer.

The group is in desperate need of a secondhand refrigerator. Anyone who has one should contact Machamer at 570-668-4165.

Bingo and cards were played. The group meets at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Coaldale Complex. Anyone 55 and older is welcome.

Rush, Ryan and Delano Seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens met Aug. 13, with 36 members present.

The president opened the meeting with the invocation, “Summer.”

Nancy Messerschmidt was added to the sick list.

Beverly Barron is celebrating an August birthday. Linda Mundy donated the lottery basket, which was won by Linda Humes. There will be a trip Tuesday to the Mohegan Pennsylvania Casino Resort near Wilkes-Barre.

A majority voted in favor of requiring members to attend at least six meetings before Dec. 10 to get a free meal at the 2024 Christmas party. Also, beginning in January 2025, members must attend six meetings before the picnic for a free meal, and 15 meetings for a free meal at the 2025 Christmas party.

The yearly dues for 2025 will be $10. Refreshments were served and bingo was played. The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 27 at Christ Church in Barnesville. Anyone 55 and older is welcome.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at Zion Church Lewistown Valley. Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m.

Calvary Lewistown

Pastor Kim will deliver a message centered around Psalm 111 and John 6:51-58 at the 10:30 a.m. services of Calvary church in Lewistown. There will be special music.

There will be no Sunday evening or Wednesday services.

The Lewistown Valley Tabernacle will host the Lumber River Quartet from North Carolina at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 22. The tabernacle will also begin the 111th year of the camp meeting beginning at 7 p.m. Aug. 23. There will be events daily through Labor Day, along with guest speakers, the Rev. Dan and Betsy Taylor of Delaware. Featured guests at 7 p.m. Aug. 29 will be the Pennsylvania Adult and Teen Challenge Choir from Rehrsburg.
