A back to school treat in Summit Hill
As the summer winds down, the Summit Hill Recreation Commission gave local youngsters a grand season finale Wednesday night.
The commission hosted movie night, which featured a feature-length movie, free refreshments and back to school necessities that were given to each attendee.
Over two dozen people turned out for the event, which was held in the Hilltop Community Center. Originally, it had been scheduled as an outdoor gathering in Ludlow Park, but a passing shower necessitated the move indoors.
Kathy Gieniec, chair of the Recreation Commission, said that every student who was present received a backpack, ring binders, notebooks, pencils and various other items.
In addition, hot dogs, popcorn and soft drinks were given to those who attended.
Gieniec said 100 hot dogs were made for the event by commission volunteers.
The movie that was shown on an inflatable screen was “Kung Fu Panda 4.”
Although chairs were set up, most children brought blankets and pillows so they could lay on the floor to view the film.
There was no admission charge.
Besides Recreation Commission volunteers, others who helped with the movie night included Marlene Basiago, a member of borough council; Ronald Yuricheck, workforce supervisor; and Patrick Crampsie, a Panther Valley High School teacher.
