Summit Hill councilman resigns
Summit Hill Borough Council’s vice president has resigned.
William “Billy” O’Gurek, who has served on the council for the past 14 years, submitted his resignation via letter. The letter, in which he said he resigned because of other personal commitments, was accepted “with great regret.”
Council President David Wargo said letters of interest for O’Gurek’s seat will be accepted until Aug 26.
It is expected a successor will be named when the council holds a special meeting at 7 p.m. that evening.
Besides naming a new councilman, the council plans to discuss the borough’s rental property ordinance at that meeting.
One other topic coming up at the meeting on Aug. 26 is the hiring of someone to cut down three maple trees in Ludlow Park.
The council was told that it has received a quote from one firm for $1,900 to cut the trees.
Councilman Joseph Weber suggested that other tree surgeons, specifically one in Summit Hill, be contacted to provide a price.
The quote that was received requires the borough to remove the wood. In addition, it does not include removal of the stumps.
The council discussed creating an ordinance that would allow council members to join a meeting remotely if not able to attend in person. Wargo said sometimes council members must be out of town on business and this would enable them to still vote on matters during meetings.
He said such approval might require that the borough obtain special equipment.
At last night’s meeting, two council members weren’t able to attend because of employment commitments, Wargo said. They are Alan Kruslicky and Lacey Gonzalez.
The borough’s solicitor, attorney Robert Frycklund, said that if such an ordinance is implemented, that there still must be a quorum of the council physically present at the meetings.
No formal action was taken on the matter.
