The Slatington Library Book Club is entering its 10th year in September and welcomed an author as part of the celebration.
Recently, they hosted Anne Supsic, author of the historical fiction, “The Bookmark.”
The Slatington Library Book Club is the first book club to order Supsic’s books directly from her. The committee of Hali Kuntz, AnnMarie Martin, Michelle Raber and Marjorie Hedmeck saw and connected with Supsic at an event six months earlier and decided it was a great book for the book club.
Supsic has been a docent for the past 14 years at the Moravian Museum in Bethlehem.
She is a dedicated Francophile, (greatly admires the French) and bookmark collector.
When she first learned of a possible romantic relationship between the Marquis de Lafayette and a Moravian Single Sister named Liesl Boeckel, she knew she had found the story she was meant to tell.
“The Bookmark” is an immersive romantic historical fiction novel that illuminates a little-known piece of American History through the lives of two women, separated by the centuries but alike in their determination to confront the past and find a way forward.
Anne Supsic said the painting of Lafayette, Liesl and Mrs. Boeckel, from 1934, was her true inspiration to write “The Bookmark.” PATRICIA INGLES/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS
