Bowmanstown awards road work bid contract

Bowmanstown Borough Engineer Jessica Rehrig last week presented seven companies that bid for the Mill Street Reconstruction Project. Of the seven bids, the lowest was from Bruce George Paving & Excavating of Kunkletown.

“I did verify the low bidder, Bruce George Paving’s documents that were presented today, and everything is in order,” Rehrig told council. “I recommend the council award the bid to Bruce George Paving & Excavating of Kunkletown, who bid $122,413.14.

Council then voted to award the contract to Bruce George.

The seven bids presented were: Bruce George Paving $122,413.14; Construction Master Services, $168,371.50; Graver Industries, dba Barker & Barker Paving, $182,914.00; Lehigh Asphalt, Paving, & Construction Co., $165,298.30; Lindy Corporation, $205,221.50; M&J Excavation, $150,855.00; and Kobalt Construction, $144,868.

Other business

• Council voted to approve two continuing education courses for Public Works Supervisor Chris Bixler; courses required for his pesticide license, which is coming due for renewal.

• Council noted a complaint from a resident regarding heavy truck traffic on White Street. Borough solicitor Lisa Pereira pointed out that aside from banning trucks altogether, which would require an engineering study, the only other option is to talk to the companies with the trucks to ask them not to have trucks use White Street.

• Council was advised from the Community Development Block Grant program that the borough’s overall low- and moderate-income population is 57.8%. That means the borough can do CDBG projects with grants that benefit the entire borough.

• Council received a complaint about teenagers in the park after 10 p.m. The unnamed resident said that the teens made threats while the person was on the phone with a Pennsylvania State Police dispatcher.

• Bowmanstown Borough Council will hold a budget meeting on Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. to discuss the 2025 budget.

• Bowmanstown council is continuing the discussion on the curbing ordinance for the borough. No action was taken as of yet on the ordinance.
