Carbon fair to mark 25 years
The 25th annual Carbon County Fair opens Monday and runs through Saturday at the fairgrounds along Little Gap Road in Palmerton.
The fair is open from 4-10 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 2-10 p.m. Saturday.
The cost of admission is $7 for everyone age 6 years and older.
Malinda Fox, fair president, is excited about the fair’s silver anniversary.
“I am thankful that I get to partake in this celebration and continuing on what my dad (Robert Silliman) began,” Fox said. “We’ve been having more success with getting more members of the community and more youth involved.”
The fair will get underway Monday with 15-year-old artist Lily Andreas singing the national anthem.
A sophomore at Lehighton Area High School, Lily began her musical performances when she was just 8 years old.
The fair committee will host a 25th anniversary ribbon cutting at 5 p.m., crowning of the fair queen and cake at the conclusion of the ceremony.
At that time, all vendors who have been with the fair all 25 years are being honored at the opening ceremony.
Pyro Joe will cap the evening with fireworks, including silver ones for the special anniversary, at 9:30 p.m.
Entertainment on Monday will consist of Rick K. Roadtrip at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. on the Main Stage, along with line dancing from DJ Chicken Nugget from 6-9 p.m. in the arena. There will also be a Garden Tractor Pull at 7 p.m. in the small arena.
Tuesday, Adam Calvert is on stage at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. The day also marks Children’s Day from 4-10 p.m., with rides for children less than 18 years of age. Wrist Bands are $18 that day; all other days are $20. At 7:45 p.m., there will be a special drawing for prizes, including six bicycles and electronics, etc. (tickets available 30 minutes before the drawing). Pennsylvania State Police, East Penn Fire Company (fire truck), Lehighton Ambulance (First Aid), Robbie’s Balloons and More.
Joe Bonson & Coffee Run will perform at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Wednesday on the Main Stage. Demolition derbies will be held at 7 p.m.
New Individuals will perform at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Thursday on the Main Stage. There will also be a Demolition Derby, for compact cars, full size cars and youth, ages 12-15.
Mystery City (Rock) will return this year, with shows at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Friday on the main stage. The Palmerton High School Band will perform at 5 p.m., followed by the Lehighton High School Band at 5:30 p.m. in the arena.
The Fabulous Greaseband will perform at 5, 7 and 9 p.m. Saturday on the Main Stage. Micro Wrestling, a hit last year, will be back at 6 p.m. in the arena.
This year, the fair will feature wine, beer and mixed drinks.
Half Barrel Brewery in Franklin Township will sell draft beers. The brewery has been in business since 2018 and this is the craft brewer’s fourth year at the fair.
Holy Ghost Distillery of White Haven will be featuring different adult drinks every day.
A daily attraction is the The Globe of Death, a circus and carnival stunt where riders perform motorcycle stunts inside a mesh sphere ball.
New vendors are serving Smash burgers, seafood, gyros and empanadas.
Alexis Bridges, a culinary graduate from Sciota, runs Coastal Cravings, a new seafood business that offers lobster rolls, Shrimp Po’ Boys and crab cake sandwiches. She has a couple of non-seafood offerings in honor of her mom, who won’t eat anything seafood related.
Bridges gets inspiration from her dad, who was born and raised in Maine. He remains on-scene to answer questions.
“I’m so excited that I was accepted to the Carbon County Fair in my first year of business,” Bridges said.
Vendors of candy, including a freeze-dried variety, and new display vendors round out the offerings.
The fair will also have its Chance Auction of more than 300 prizes including a Blackstone Griddle, a PowerWheels Jeep, baskets and gift certificates.
