Chestnuthill gets $1.5M for emergency center
Chestnuthill Township is moving forward with its new emergency services building.
At the mid-July township meeting, a resolution was passed for the $1.5 million Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant to be utilized for the Chestnuthill Township Shared Emergency Services Facility.
The project began on Route 715 with a groundbreaking on June 20, 2023, across from the present fire company. Some of the money was borrowed from East Stroudsburg Savings Association and different foundations to complete the project. The expected cost is $11 million.
The new two-story building lies on a 6.5-acre lot. It is 200 feet long, and 120 feet wide.
The West End Fire Company will have 13,860 square feet, which include six vehicle bays. The LVHN EMS West End will use 5,060 square feet and four EMS vehicle bays, and the Emergency Operations Center will have 3,080 square feet and one vehicle bay.
The supervisors also passed a resolution regarding the letter of support from the Department of Community and Economic Development Multi-Modal Transportation Fund Grant program for a sidewalk in front of the Chestnuthill Township Shared Emergency Facility.
Township Manager Dave Albright the grant request is for $281,675, which is the estimated cost for construction. The project is in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
There will be sidewalks along Route 715 from the emergency service facility to St. Luke’s Health Center — Brodheadsville and in front of the firehouse on Route 715 on the other side of the street. Albright said the sidewalk will complete pedestrian connections. A small retaining wall will also be built near the emergency service facility.
