Nesquehoning man jailed on strangulation charges

A Nesquehoning man faces charges after strangling a woman Thursday night in the borough.

Daniel Conahan, 36, was arraigned on charges of strangulation, simple assault and harassment, and jailed in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning in lieu of $50,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled Aug. 7.

According to court papers, police were dispatched to West Mill Street for a strangulation Thursday at 1 a.m. and spoke to a woman, who had visible marks on her neck.

The woman told police that another woman showed up at her apartment screaming for help, and she let her inside. She then went to the other woman’s apartment and found Conahan in the kitchen, court papers said.

She told Conahan to quit fighting with the other woman and to come get her, court papers said. She told police that Conahan threw the kitchen island over and poured a drink on her head.

Conahan then wrapped his arm around her throat and choked her until she passed out, she told police. She remembers another man waking her up from the floor, and she ran outside and called 911, court papers said.
