Carbon County Commissioners
The Carbon County Commissioners acted on or discussed the following items during their weekly meeting on Thursday.
• Approved a $200,000 loan to Area Agency on Aging to cover operational costs until funds are received from the state.
• Approved an agreement with ESCO Inc. of Ephrata to install a new channel 1TB DVR recorder in the District Court in Palmerton, at a total cost of $1,520.
• Approved a change order and completion extension for a 2021 Community Development Block Grant project in Weissport. The change order alters the contract with Bruce George Paving and Excavating of Kunkletown for the water/sewer improvements on Forge Street/White Street due to the lack of available supplies. The project now increases $5,455.91, for a new contract price of $71,798.01. The new completion date is Sept. 30 due to a conflict with the UGI gas main project.
• Commissioner Rocky Ahner wished Pamela Bauchspies and Tammy Wall well on their upcoming retirements.
• Commissioners’ Chairman Michael Sofranko announced that the first of three free family movie nights at Mauch Chunk Lake was well attended.

• Retirement: Pamela M. Bauchspies, of Lehighton, chief assessor, tax assessment, effective Sept 13; and Tammy L. Wall, of Summit Hill, probation officer II/Gagnon hearing officer, adult probation, effective Aug. 26.
• Resignations: Marian C. MacGrath, of Kunkletown, administrative assistant II, Children & Youth, effective July 26; and Donna L. Shelly, of Lehighton, aging case aide II, Area Agency on Aging, effective March 31, 2025.
• Employment separation: Nancy J. Schaefer, of Jim Thorpe, social services aide I, Children & Youth, effective July 24.
• Prison board appointments: Lauren F. Brown, of Lehighton, Michael F. Baker, of Drums, and Travis L. Day, of Summit Hill, corrections officers, all effective July 29.
• Hire: Koy M. Wentz, of Lehighton, part-time dispatcher/trainee, communications center, effective July 29.
• Court appointment: Daniel A. Woodman, of Philadelphia, law clerk, court administration: effective July 29.
• Sheriff appointment: Joseph Dietz, of Nesquehoning, part-time security officer, effective Aug. 5.
