Carbon County officials seek residents’ input on open space

Carbon County officials are asking residents to participate in an online survey to help with its comprehensive plan and greenway trails and open space plan.

The survey focuses on the development of the greenways, trails and open space within Carbon County.

Tim Staub, project manager for HRG Inc., the company completing the plans, said that the two documents they are preparing will provide information on everything from land use, transportation, infrastructure, natural resource protection and more, as well as ways to maintain and build on the natural resources that Carbon County is known for.

“From a county perspective, we try to prepare a document to fit all communities, your local municipalities school districts,” Staub said. “So that’s what we try to accomplish as part of this process.”

With regards to the greenway plan, Staub said it aims to identify the most important things.

“Is there a link in a trail network that we need to get to promote economic development; or a way for people to get to their work destination?” Staub asked.

He stressed the importance of the survey to help gather the information that will help all of the county moving forward.

“The county cannot implement the entire document by themselves,” he said.

HRG began looking at the document updates in February and prepared the survey while building the resources needed.

Residents can help with this process by visiting https://www.carboncountypa.gov/services/ and select Planning & Development from the list. A link to the survey, which takes approximately 15 minutes to complete, is available there.

The commissioners said they need to know what people want so they can make educated decisions.

“This is the community’s opportunity to get out here and say this is what I like, or I don’t like that,” Commissioner Rocky Ahner said.

The survey is open now through the end of August.
