Polk Twp. playground to get fence

Polk Township supervisors approved a fence for the new playground.

As the playground was recently put in, a 220-foot long fence will be put in to separate the playground and parking lot. It will cost $5,280.

The supervisors reported a total income for the month of June of $105,209.51 at their meeting on Monday, and the total for bills paid was $262,783.83.

The fire company had 17 emergencies for the month, 170 hours, and 311 fundraising hours. Two new firefighters successfully completed the state firefighter training, which makes for a total of nine firefighters.

Eldo Lakes requested speed limit signs, because cars are driving past the school buses. Several bus stop signs have been added. And a motion was passed to do a speed study, not to exceed $3,000.

Brian Ahner, the roadmaster, reported that the township is in need of a new mower. The 1995 and 2005 mowers, currently owned, will be placed on Municibid.

The cost of a new mower would be $12,893.58 for a 24-horsepower John Deere or a Kubota at $9,000 with less horsepower. This will be discussed further at the next supervisors meeting.

Tracy Herman, the zoning/codes officer, reported that 19 permits were issued for the month. Fifteen building permits and 11 certificates of use to occupancy were issued.

Herman also said the nuisance property at Laurel Lane was vacated and restoration will begin. A property at Ashley Court never picked up needed permits for a large project, and the township will be moving forward with legal action.

Resident Michael McMurty presented proposed changes to a solar ordinance.

“This will do well to protect the residents.” McMurty said.

Some of the proposed changes include increasing the setback from 100 feet to 200 feet and 500 feet for a property line substation or transformer. Changes in zones solar is permitted were also suggested.

A public hearing for a solar ordinance will be held at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 26.

Approval was made to increase the Environmental Day budget to $2,500. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 6 at the walking park.
