The Weatherly Police Department will host the 2024 Junior Police Academy for students in seventh to 12th grades this fall.
Cadets will learn about and use the tools and equipment used by law enforcement during the weekly sessions.
Some of the lessons learned during the academy will include how to process a crime scene, a Taser demonstration, fingerprinting, CPR and first aid, along with virtual reality training.
Cadets will work closely with members of Weatherly police and various other law enforcement agencies during the session.
The academy is open to Weatherly Area School District students who are interested in learning the day-to-day duties of police officers or who may be interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.
Cadets will meet every Tuesday from 5:30 to 8 p.m., beginning on Sept. 17. The academy runs through Nov. 19, and one Saturday class is possible.
Interested individuals can pick up an application at the police station at 65 W. Main St. or visit the website at: www.weatherlypd.com.
Applications will also be available at the Weatherly Area elementary and high school offices. The deadline to apply is Aug. 31.
Any questions should be directed to Sgt. Michael Bogart or call 570-427-4241.
