90th St. Joseph festival kicks off Friday

A summer staple in the Summit Hill community will be held this weekend.

St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley’s 90th annual Summer Festival will be held on the church grounds on West Ludlow Street Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The annual festival kicks off at 5 p.m. each night.

There will be music by the Pennsylvania Villagers from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, Six to Midnight from 6-10 p.m. on Saturday and Sweet Revenge from 6-9 p.m. on Sunday.

There will also be a selection of games for the children, a bounce house, bake sale, basket raffle and more.

In addition, drawings for cash, home heating fuel, a grill and a Yeti cooler.

One of the highlights of the festival is the selection of homemade local and ethnic food specialties including halushki, halupki, bleenies, pierogies, burgers, pizza, sausage sandwiches and more.

While the festival happens in the evenings, the parish will hold a cornhole tournament at 1 p.m. on Sunday in the parish parking lot. Registration begins at noon and the bags fly at 1.

St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley is located at 462 W. Ludlow St., Summit Hill.

The parish festival has deep roots in the Summit Hill community.

Initially called the St. Gabe’s Festival, it has been held on the grounds of the church on the west end of Summit Hill since 1934.
