The Walker Township Roadmaster Chad Felty and the township supervisors agreed on some road shoulder grading work to be done at the monthly meeting Thursday.
Felty will be grading the shoulders of sections of Brook Lane and Meadow Lane, and possibly some work on parts of Catawissa Road. Supervisors again advised drivers to use caution while the workers are working.
Felty also advised the supervisors that once again, the requirement to purchase the contracted minimum amount of salt and anti-skid material has been waived.
“We have not purchased any salt all year,” Felty advised the supervisors. “We have about 100 tons of salt right now. We could fit another 100 tons in the shed. The new rate beginning Aug. 1 will be 6% more. If we purchase salt now at the lower rate, we would also have to purchase the minimum amount during the next contract year, which is Aug. 1 to July 31 (minimum amount is 180 tons). However, if we have another mild winter, and we fill the salt shed now, we would not be able to fit any more salt in the shed.”
The supervisors voted not to purchase any more salt at this time.
