An event to raise funds for the families affected by the fire in Lehighton last month is soon on tap.
Borough council last week granted permission for Baer Memorial Swimming Pool in Lehighton to host Christmas in July.
Councilmen John Kreitz and David Zimmerman were absent.
Council’s action came after it heard from Tom Evans, borough recreation director.
Sponsored by Pizza Como and Blockers Collision Center, the event will start at 6 p.m. on July 25.
The cost is $10 per person. Donation boxes will also be available for the families.
The event will feature a Movie Night with a movie shown at sunset.
There will also be a Night Swim with a DJ.
The fire on June 20 destroyed homes on 322-324 N. First St.
Borough engineer Vanessa Nedrick said the building was a safety risk to pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic on Route 209 traveling through Lehighton and that it should be demolished immediately.
Northeast Industrial Services completed the demolition on June 24.
Advanced Auto along Route 443 will conduct a car wash starting at 9 a.m. on July 27 for the Ferguson family.
Christine Ferguson and her three sons lost everything in the fire. Alfie’s has set up a box for collections for the Ferguson family. A GoFundMe has also been set up.
GoFundMe accounts are also set up for other victims, including Jessi Ferrey and her family. Sapore’s is hosting a fundraiser for the family on Wednesday.
