Lehighton borough council took the following action last week:
• Approved payment application No. 5 for Livengood Excavators Inc. in the amount of $49,013 for the Waterfront Pedestrian Safety Project.
• Adopted a resolution for authorization to request grant funding from the Commonwealth Financing Authority. State Sen. David Argall and state Rep. Doyle Heffley previously awarded the borough $250,000 for downtown facade work for beautification. The borough will establish a program for property owners to apply for a portion of the funds.
• Announced they will have a recommendation for the vacant borough mechanical position by next month’s meeting.
• Gave permission to borough police Chief Troy Abelovsky to raise the police department used car allowance by $6,000. He now has $16,000 to budget for a used vehicle.
• Agreed to provide fire police for the Carbon County Fair Aug. 5-10.
