Woman charged with stalking ex through mail
A Walnutport woman has been charged with constantly stalking her ex-wife through the United States Postal Service and by other means.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Officer Nicholas Hartman of the Walnutport Borough Police Department in the case against Stephanie Heckman:
On June 20, Hartman was informed by borough police Chief Pete Wayda that the victim arrived at the station that morning to file a complaint against Heckman, 39.
The victim informed Wayda that she was being stalked and harassed by Heckman via the mail and email. She also gave Hartman multiple screenshots of the situation at hand.
Hartman attempted to contact Heckman at her residence, but she wasn’t home. Phone contact was made.
The victim explained that Heckman was continually stalking her, and she didn’t feel as if she could leave her house without having to constantly look over her shoulder, because she was in fear for her safety due to Heckman’s repeated and escalating actions.
The victim explained that she received a letter from the United States Postal Service on June 6 welcoming her to a program called “Informed Delivery.” The program allows a person to see the mail coming to the residence via the USPS app.
The victim immediately contacted the help desk and had Heckman removed from the Informed Delivery system.
The victim told Hartman their divorce was finalized in February, and that Heckman has not lived at her residence for well over a year and has no business watching the mail.
The victim explained that she received an email from Heckman on June 10 with no subject line, but a screenshot of a United States Postal Service, Official Change-of-Address Confirmation addressed to the victim’s friend, who had moved in with her.
On June 13, the victim received another welcome letter for signing up for the “Informed Delivery.”
The victim once again went through the proper steps to remove Heckman from this system.
Hartman asked the victim to provide him with all of the screenshots and contacts that had been made from Heckman, along with a copy of the active Protection From Abuse Order.
Hartman also requested a written statement from the victim over the matter, and she informed him that she would get it to him as soon as she came back to town.
Heckman faces charges of stalking and harassment.
Heckman is currently incarcerated in the Northampton County Prison in lieu of $25,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing July 17 before District Judge Robert A. Hawke of Walnutport.
