The North Central Highway Safety Network’s Regional DUI Enforcement Group has announced results from a Sobriety Checkpoint conducted on Route 209 on July 5 at 10 p.m. through 2 a.m. July 6 in the Borough of Lehighton.
The checkpoint was part of a statewide crackdown on impaired driving being conducted across the state. Specially trained officers and drug recognition experts, who can spot symptoms of drug-induced impairment were available to detect drug impaired drivers.
A total of 320 vehicles were contacted. Four drivers were detained and tested for suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance. All four people suspected of driving while impaired were arrested, four arrests made for narcotics violations, 19 traffic citations and 25 warnings issued.
Sobriety Checkpoints are funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Formal charges are pending the results of the blood analysis for each impaired operator.
