Nesquehoning is continuing a project that aims to remember community members, while providing a place for residents to sit around town.
The Nesquehoning Historical Society has announced that there are still a few openings for memorial benches for this year. Last year, a total of 51 commemorative benches were placed around the borough.
“The benches add to the town and surrounding areas in many ways,” the society wrote on its Facebook page.
The community bench project is open to anyone as a “unique and meaningful way to honor and remember friends and loved ones, promote your business, recognize a civic group or commemorate a special event.”
All benches include a memorial plaque and cost $225 to be created.
If you would like to purchase a bench, send payment, and a two-line inscription to Borough of Nesquehoning, 114 W. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning, PA 18240. There is a cap of 15 benches for this year.

The community bench program began last year as an Eagle Scout project for area resident Angelo Greek.
