Palmerton man charged with threats to girlfriend

A Palmerton man has waived charges in a preliminary hearing where he is accused of threatening to kill his girlfriend.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Alexander Rankovich of the Pennsylvania State Police, Lehighton barracks in the case against Troy Rehrig, 37:

At 7:21 p.m. June 17, troopers responded to a home in the 200 block of Horseshoe Drive, Towamensing Township, for an active domestic dispute.

The woman said her boyfriend, Rehrig, left to get meth.

The victim said that at 5:20 p.m., Rehrig began texting her messages “do not (expletive) come here. I will (expletive) kill you. Do not step one (expletive) foot on my property. I will (expletive) kill you and your (expletive) retard daughter.”

The victim said that shortly thereafter, Rehrig arrived at the residence and began to yell “you’re (expletive) leaving” and threw food that the victim was making.

The victim requested her daughter, who was also in the kitchen, to run to the neighbor’s and call 911.

The victim said that she was unable to leave as Rehrig cornered her before grabbing her by her shirt collar and yelling at her.

The woman was able to escape the house as Rehrig walked away from her.

She showed police the text messages sent to her.

Rankovich then responded to interview Rehrig, and as he walked up to Rehrig, he placed his hands behind his back and said that he was going to jail.

When asked why, Rehrig stated, “The most you have on me is terroristic threats.”

Rehrig faces charges on two counts of terroristic threats, and one count each of simple assault and harassment.

Rehrig had a preliminary hearing before District Judge William J. Kissner of Palmerton.

Rehrig was in the Carbon County Correctional Facility on $25,000 bail, but is free after posting 10%.
