Man who hit woman with Jeep charged
An Ashfield man faces charges after he intentionally struck a woman with his vehicle and attempted to run down another person last month in an East Penn Township driveway.
Bruce L. Hawk, 53, was arraigned on multiple charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment related to the June 20 incident on Sand Quarry Road.
He was also charged with careless driving, reckless driving and operating a vehicle with a suspended or revoked driver’s license for driving under the influence, court papers said.
Hawk was committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning in lieu of $100,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled July 24.
According to arrest papers, Hawk, driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, intentionally rammed into the back of an occupied vehicle parked in a driveway at 141 Sand Quarry Road around 9:30 a.m. on June 20.
The driver of the vehicle that was struck got out of her vehicle and yelled at Hawk to stop, because her two young children, a 3-year-old and a 4-month-old, were inside her vehicle, court papers said.
The woman told state police Hawk then backed up his vehicle and accelerated toward her. She attempted to run, but was unable to get out of the way and was struck by Hawk’s vehicle, court papers said.
A passenger in the woman’s vehicle exited the vehicle and began to run, when Hawk attempted to run him down, court papers said. Hawk’s Jeep struck a tree while he pursued the man, ripping off the bumper.
Hawk fled into the woods in his vehicle, which was found abandoned in a wooded area nearby, court papers said.
The woman along with her two children were taken to St. Luke’s Carbon Campus in Lehighton for treatment. The woman suffered minor injuries, including a cut to her left leg, bruising to her thigh and bruising to her ribs, court papers said.
Neither the children nor the passenger in the woman’s vehicle were injured.
